Since I am lacking the expertise to fix the problems you mentioned myself, I will wait, if anyone has the desire and resources to fix it. If you need someone to test a preliminary patch, I read the mailing list. (Personal consequence: I guess I cannot to do my light AFS use and administration directly from my FreeBSD desktop anymore, which I will probably upgrade to 11.0 anyhow for other reasons, but a Linux VM will do, which has a more robust OpenAFS client anyhow.)
