Looks to me like you don't really have a kernel build in
/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/TRUL.

You don't actually need an entire build, just a config'ed build directory.
So if you're using GENERIC or some other kernel for which you have the
config, you don't need to compile the whole thing.  (I haven't verified this
but I believe it's true.)
