GSoC 2025 – Proposal for GNOME Shell Extension

Hi Michael Meffie,

I'm Deepak Jain, currently in my third year of Computer Science studies and
someone who=E2=80=99s genuinely excited about Linux system development and
contributing to open-source projects.

I=E2=80=99ve recently submitted my proposal for this year=E2=80=99s Google =
Summer of Code,
where I=E2=80=99d love to work on the *GNOME Shell Extension for OpenAFS Cl=
ient
Management* project.

Over the past few weeks, I=E2=80=99ve been diving into how GNOME Shell exte=
nsions
work, exploring the OpenAFS client commands, and thinking about how to make
client interaction a lot smoother=E2=80=94especially for users who prefer a=
 more
intuitive desktop experience. I believe this project can really help bridge
the gap between system-level power and user-friendly design.

I=E2=80=99ve already uploaded my proposal on the GSoC website, but I=E2=80=
=99d really
appreciate any feedback, thoughts, or suggestions from the community on how
I can align it even better with OpenAFS=E2=80=99s long-term goals. I=E2=80=
=99m also happy
to share a public view link with anyone interested in reviewing it.

This is my first time getting involved with OpenAFS, and I=E2=80=99m honest=
ly
looking forward to contributing, learning a lot, and becoming an active
part of the community.
