After purging the client from the system and reinstalling it does work
again. There seems to be something that's missing in the 0.7
client-config files that makes 0.8 stop working...

(dpkg --purge sfs-common sfs-client; apt-get install sfs-common
sfs-client)

doing the same on the server did not solve the problem (although I
reinstalled from scratch there tooo)
