The error showed up in the make as:

/usr/lib/libstdc++.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation

The solution is to specify the opensp libs as
./configure --with-opensp-libs=/usr/lib64

For the CVS build on SuSE, I used:
./autogen.sh --with-opensp-libs=/usr/lib64 --libdir=/usr/lib64 --prefix=/usr

to make sure that it put everything in the same libraries as SuSE used 
for libofx.0.6
