does libofx work on an amd64?

I've used gnucash for a year or so and libofx for about six months in a
32 bit environment. I've now built libofx and gnucash-1.8.9 on an
emachines M6805 with an amd64 processor, but can not figure out how to
get ofx support to compile in(I've also sent a request to the gnucash
and gentoo lists, bit no info back yet).

I'm using the gentoo distribution of linux under a 2.6.7 kernel and
gcc-3.3.3. libofx-0.6.6 compiled without errors at the end. I had edited
the gentoo ebuild to include adding accept_keywords ~amd64.

Basically, I'm asking if libofx should function in a 64 bit environment.
If so, any tips on how I should compile it? TIA, Bill
