That's a bit unfair. One thing Oracle manages to do better than
most other IT companies is to absorb acquisitions and adopt or maintain
the IP behind them.
They are focused on making money, and free Open Source does have a place
there. Linux and MySQL haven't died yet.
However, I suspect Java on Mac would sell more Macs than Java on Mac would
sell Oracle products, so there's certainly less impetus for Oracle to embrace
Java work than Apple has, and apparently Apple doesn't doesn't have enough
impetus. If Apple wants someone else working on JVM they'll have to
release more of their graphics APIs, apparently.
Oracle uses Java extensively, so I'd assume that means support for major
Oracle platforms like Linux, Windows, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX will be good.
You just need to develop the Oracle on Mac market. :-)
While you're at it, create a Java app store and sell products to Mac,
PC, and Linux users.
I work at Oracle, in new development that is pretty far from database apps and
Java. I have no contacts with Java folks at Oracle-classic or Oracle-Sun. I
came from HP (and Compaq, and DEC) - now there's a company utterly incompetant
at absorbing acquisitions. Fortunately, the severance package was pretty good
at the time....
