I'll vouch for that. The Android Market has a limitation that free apps cannot perform an in-app purchases. This makes it next to impossible to do a proper free trial period or demo mode. If Google starts allowing in-app purchases from free apps (like Apple did, after much pressure from developers) then it should be possible to do a proper free trial mode.
