John, Basically, you want to record a speculative transaction; a transaction that has not happened and may never happen. Those types of transaction do not get recorded whether you are on the cash basis or accrual basis of accounting. Your net worth is based upon a point in time and it is not impacted by something that you may or may not do in the future.
