I neglected to report that I am running MD on Windows 7.  The method you 
report above is what I am trying to do.  It only lets me get to the 
primary item which in this case is my gross pay.  I am unable to 
see/edit/ or add the sub items (deductions.  If I select new split it 
does add a new split without allowing any other input.

So this more fully reports my situation.  Any other ideas.
