Let's avoid that if we can.
Use Libspiro to turn the complex curves into simpler curves.
Then it is a matter of figuring out which curve intersects what curve.
When you've figured-out which curve crosses which curve, then you use a bit 
of algebra to find the crossover point.
Straight lines should be simpler.
Hand-drawn pencil scratchings maybe more complex.
