Segfaulting on startup - troubleshooting question

Recently FontForge started crashing on me at startup when opening a particular SFD file -- one which has worked in the past. What is it trying to tell me? Searching on GitHub, I see it comes up in a few issue reports, but never with much in the way of explanation. How do I figure out what the trouble is?
