You are obviously using git to get the source code. Consequently, you
should be able to use `git log' to browse the changes.

Today, virtually all projects stored in an SCM like git no longer
contain generated files; this makes the repository *much* cleaner.
People trying to compile such projects directly from git are expected
to know what they do – at least they should be capable of finding the
`INSTALL-git.md' file, which explains how to proceed.

This is bullshit. Don't play the silly guy.

If you create a tarball from the FontForge git sources, you can
directly call `./configure', and it works. Indeed, ImageMagick
contains the `configure' script in the git repository, and it gets
recreated again and again as soon as there are minor changes in the
`configure.ac' or the M4 files. This is an *exception*. Look at
other projects at github! Perhaps 9 out of 10 based on autoconf or
automake no longer contain `configure', and you have to run
`autogen.sh', `bootstrap', or something similar to start with.

This is admittedly a problem. You could help with sending proper bug
reports, for example. On the other hand, I guess that ImageMagick's
user and developer base is approx. 100 times larger...

Then play with ImageMagick and edit your fonts with it!
Non-constructive criticism is *so* easy.
