All, The minutes of today's call: Attendees: Paul Anderson Jim Gettys Howard Greenwell Kevin Martin Leon Shiman Daniel Stone Minutes: 1. Developer Conference next week. Jim described room for next week. Set up tables - get about 40 seated that way. Podium has PC and VGA cable for 4 projectors at the front. Jim will put together a schedule in the next couple of days. Stuart would like there to be an overall theme/purpose of the meeting. Leon would like to see the purpose of the conference to get new ideas on the table. Get concensus of what things can be done, not that they will be done. Want to hear all the possibilities, and then debate the merits of all overall strategy. Want people to think through far reaching ideas. Need to discuss the dial-in. MAS conferencing could handle 40-50 connections. Latency is down to about 0.125 secsonds. Silvio is looking at a last bug. Jim not have time this week to set up a machine. Have 18Mb link into the building. Network should no impose problems - outside of firewall. Leon/Silvio will run some trials this week, and try communicate with some people who will not be attending the meeting. 2. Modular vs Monolithic Builds Leon raised the note he had sent to the board about supporting Keith on Modular development. Jim wants Egbert and Keith on the call. Stuart raised the fact that he was not comfortable with the Modular tree. Nor was he comfortable with the lack of testing that is being performed. Jim concerned that open source development should not be slowed down by requirements of one company to do full testing. Cited RedHat and Fedora - Red Hat enterprise is the fully tested system before it is released. Leon said we should have a term - Open Testing. Stuart wants to see test things done that should be part of development. General disagreement. Moved on to discussion of merits of IMAKE, GNU Tools, etc. No conclusions - Fears expressed about the different tools expressed through lack of understanding. Agreed we needed a full discussion new week to educate the others on each possible tool solution. Next call on Wednesday, when hopefully Egbert and Keith can join. Howard.
