libXau-0.1.1 installs:

 lib/libXau.so.0
 lib/libXau.so.0.0

The Makefile.am has:
   libXau_la_LDFLAGS = -version-number 0:0:0

What should the version number be? (Or is starting at 0.0 fine and
normal?)

p.s. By the way, the web interface at
http://pdx.freedesktop.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/ doesn't seem to have any files
to look at. It has been this way over a week. The other cvs web at
http://freedesktop.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/ does work fine though.
