xorg locks when ddc is not available

Hello,

 I get an hardlock each time I connect my Matrox Millennium 2064W 
card to a monitor without ddc, I can reproduce the hardlock by
adding the noddc option  to the monitor section. Also it doesn't
matter if a manual range for Hsync or Vsync is specified, ddc seems
necesary :-(

Anyone knows if there is any workaround for this?
