Hi all
Apologies if this isn't the correct place to post this. I couldn't
see anywhere better :-)
I just compiled the freedesktop.org xserver module (and deps), and
have had some success and getting it to do something. I've got a
Radeon 9700PRO, which seems to correspond to Radeon R300 ND in the
driver..
Xati does this when run with no options:
Fatal server error:
[ati]: depth 4 unsupported
If I run: Xdpi -listmodes
VBE version 2.0 (ATI R300)
DAC is fixed, controller is VGA compatible, RAMDAC causes snow
Total memory: 131072 kilobytes
0x0006: 640x200x1 (monochrome) Planar (1 planes)
0x000D: 320x200x4 Planar (4 planes) (no linear framebuffer)
0x000E: 640x200x4 Planar (4 planes) (no linear framebuffer)
0x0010: 640x350x4 Planar (4 planes) (no linear framebuffer)
0x0011: 640x480x1 (monochrome) Planar (1 planes)
0x0012: 640x480x4 Planar (4 planes) (no linear framebuffer)
0x0013: 320x200x8 PseudoColor
So, I tried: Xati -mode 0x0013
Something appears, and running xterm on it does change it, but
it's still horribly distorted.
Anyway, if this is a FAQ I'll put it into the Wiki or whatever.
Otherwise, I'm willing to do whatever to figure it out :-)
(I did try the Xfbdev server - it does work, but comes up with
everything blue; I think it's using the wrong colour depth.
Xvesa hangs the machine, I'll blame that on my nForce1 motherboard.)
Thanks for any help!
Grahame
