I believe this, http://handhelds.org/~pb/pc.patch , is the patch Phil
uses against pkg-config when using it for x-compilation of X. Also
check the fd.o bugzilla on pkg-config - Im not sure if any other
alternate patches got posted there. 

I build fd.o X natively on arm rather than x-compiling preferring the
a long wait over the 'doesn't have to be this bad' x-compile pain.
