I've certainly had several discussions with one of these
vendors, and am happy to have it with others; the initial
reaction seemed positive.
The short term plan is to get this running on the Radeon 7500
and similar chips, to make a proof point: asking anyone for
changes without the pudding seems poor to me, though the
feedback I've gotten so far is very positive.

What XFree86 does is for it to decide. The way XFree86 is
incorporated currently makes it impossible for
anyone outside to have any voice in its decisions.
