Windows positioned outside screen dimensions

Is it possible in this new xserver to have windows outside the viewable area?
for example if my screen resolution is 1024x768 (and assuming the xserver uses
the same unit dimensions) is it possible to place a window whose top left corner
is off screen (for example at 1200x800, which of course wont be drawn)?
Obviously you cant move your mouse outside the screen dimensions, so i'd have to
use an xlib call to do this, or is this completely the domain of the window
manager (and x has no control over window placement *whatsover*).
