Hello all,
The sound for certain games constantly changes pitch while playing. I
haven't used AdvanceMAME since around version .74(?) when I seem to
remember this bug being introduced. I had hoped the issue would be
resolved by now, however it still exists!
IIRC the bug came about when the author moved away from the MAME sound
code, and introduced his own? I also remembered there being a fix for
this by commenting out a certain line of code, which I found by browsing
the archives:
> You can partially revert back to the old behavior by removing (or
> commenting) from the file advance/osd/emu.h the line :
> #define USE_INTERNALRESAMPLE 1
I noticed an option in the 0.87 advmame.rc called `sound_resamplefilter'
which I set to "no". This did alleviate some of the nasty sound pitch
shifting, however there are still frequent points during gameplay when
brief (but noticeable) shifts happen. Is this a totally different
option altogether, do I still need to comment out that line of code in
emu.h?
I'm curious if it's possible to completely revert back to the original
mame sound code, because the sound works perfect in xmame, and I simply
can't live with improper sound. I would, however, prefer to use
AdvanceMAME since in every other way it seems superior to me.
Note: two games where you can really notice this problem are outrun, and
shangonb.
Any info on this would be appreciated,
Tim.
