Multiple mice bug?

Hi,

I'm running AdvanceMAME 0.88 on Gentoo Linux with a 2.6 kernel.

I have an Ultimarc Opti-PAC (http://www.ultimarc.com/optipac1.html) 
connected via USB, with two trackballs connected to it. The Opti-PAC 
basically appears to linux as a USB HID with 2 mice. It's working perfectly 
in X and if I type "cat /dev/input/mouse0" or "cat /dev/input/mouse1" or 
"cat /dev/input/mice", it is clear that both mice are working perfectly at 
the operating system level.

However, AdvanceMAME refuses to read mouse0 properly, whatever I do. If I 
run "advm -device_mouse svgalib", mouse0 only responds in one direction on 
each axis and spits out stupidly high/low values such as -128 and -64 even 
when the trackball is only being moved very slightly. If I run 
"advm -device_mouse raw", mouse1 works properly, but mouse0 still does not 
work. I have tried using -device_raw_mousedev and -device_raw_mousetype to 
allocate "mouse0", "mouse1" and "mice" in every possible combination, but 
the result remains the same. Mouse1 is read perfectly with drivers which 
support multiple mice, but mouse0 is always read incorrectly.

I do not have the kernel event driver installed and do not want to install 
it, so I can't try this driver.

Because both mice work in X and with a "cat" command, I think this must be a 
bug in AdvanceMAME. I am posting here to ask if anyone has had similar 
experiences, or if anyone has any suggestions for things I could try prior 
to posting a bug on sourceforge.
