I submitted this as a feature request. I thought I would send it here to in
case anyone can suggest an alternative solution.
I'm not sure if this will be possible:
When using multiple usb devices of the same type (mice in my case) they may
switch order on boot. I assume the same thing can happen with joysticks.
For example event0, event1, and event3 are usb mouse devices and the device
normally at event0 switches to event3 which in turn ruins all the
input_map[p1_trackballx] mouse[0,x]
type settings. I am wondering if it is possible to specify the device order
by something other than when it is recognized by the system. Perhaps by a
device serial number or the USB port it is plugged into. (again, I have no
idea if this is possible) So you would have a setting in advmame.rc for
each mouse:
device_mouse_event[0]_serialnumber 125848
or
device_mouse_event[0]_portid 1
or something similar.
