Keyboard using event driver stops working when Lightgun attached

I'm running advmame 0.89 on Novell Desktop Linux 9.0 (suse) with a
2.6.10 kernel, and an act labs usb lightgun.  When the lightgun is not
plugged in, I'm able to use the event interface for the keyboard
driver, but when the lightgun is plugged in, it works fine w/ event
but the keyboard fails to work unless I switch the driver to raw.

Do I have a configuration issue?  Is this just me? :)
