Re: UnOfficial MAME builds soon to be ILLEGAL!

This means nothing to AdvanceMAME, which is not in conflict with any of
the guidelines they've suggested. This is purely a CYA thing by the
MAME team to make sure they don't get sued for the actions of others.
Good for them.

Even if an emulator doesn't follow their guidelines, the only thing the
MAME team could do is insist that it not include "MAME" in the name (as
long as the source was still available as per the GPL). They can't make
"laws" - as long as the MAME team is still using the GPL for the source,
you can make any derivative you want as long as you yourself follow the
GPL. Only the name itself is trademarked.

By "DCMA", I take it you're referring to the DMCA.

I would highly doubt anyone on the MAME team wants *anything* to do with
any DMCA supporters - since you can't very well emulate a
protected/encrypted arcade game without "circumventing" the protection
mechanisms therein. The only people supporting the DMCA are trying to
sell you something.
