Hello, I finally gave up on the Radeon 9250 in my cabinet and grabbed a cheap Matrox G400 off of EBay since everyone has said it should *just work*. I'm obviously an idiot when it comes to this stuff because I cannot get this working. I verified that I can get a 15khz console by booting from the Easycab bootable CD which uses AdvanceVGA. I compiled the Matrox framebuffer into my kernel. I then tried specifying no Matrox framebuffer kernel parameter as well as the following parameters gleaned from the mailing list archives: video=matroxfb:xres:1280,yres:1024,depth:32,left:200,right:48,hslen:184,upper:26,lower:0,vslen:3,pixclock:12714 video=matroxfb:xres:256,yres:240,depth:8,left:32,right:32,hslen:32,upper:16,lower:3,vslen:3,pixclock:180375 In all of these cases, I've been unable to get a readable console in order to even attempt to run advcfg and move on to the next steps. I generally just get garbage. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I've completely run out of any ideas to even try. If I had the cash, I'd just replace the monitor with a D9200 and be done with it, but that is just not an option.
