xp sp2 problems with svgawin?

I can't for the life of me get svga to work on my xp machine(s).  On
multiple machines and multipe card configs, I get "No video driver is
able to program your video board."

I haven't found anything in docs that suggests what's going on, except
for "Try reducing the video hardware acceleration from the Control
Panel".

Any help?  Other than using linux?  (want to have this plugged into
the network at my office for a high score webpage, our IT people would
definitely prefer that it be an up-to-date windows box)
