RE: is the latest rom still compatible to older version of advmame 0.81?

In Short, usually. There are are rom changes between versions which can
break rom compatability. Assuming you are using a current (0.102) romset and
older Advmame (0.81), then Art of Fighting will not work due to a number of
changes to the NeoGeo bios set. You can use MAWS
(http://www.mameworld.net/maws) to view the changed games between versions,
and usually anything on that list will have a rom change, and thus not work
across versions. 

However, usually you can rebuild compatiable older versions using any sort
of rom building/auditing tool, such as Advance Scan. This may help you
salvage you rom collection if you want to use older mame versions, or at
least remove/move those roms from your working system that are imcomplete.
