makebootfat with multiple partitions

Hi!

The makebootfat tool creates one big FAT partition when being called as 
follows:

makebootfat -o /dev/sda -Y -b test/ldlinux.bss -m mbrfat.bin -c 
test/ldlinux.sys -c syslinux.cfg -c ../etherimg -F empty/

The USB stick is then bootable with a bios supporting USB-FDD. However I would 
like to have the files required for booting (kernel initrd syslinux.cfg) on 
the FAT partition but the linux filesystem on a second (larger) partition, to 
be able to boot without a harddisk (media center pc). Is there a possibility 
to resize the FAT partition to make some space for another one (gparted was 
unable to do that)?
