This is getting pretty frustrating. In gxmame/xmame under Fedora, all
I have to do is set it to "use mouse" and my spinner works perfectly
for tempest. But I can't for the life of me figure out why it's not
working that way in advancemame. I think it's just because I don't
understand the format of input_map[], perhaps some advancemame guru
can help?

Again, my devices are defined as follows (AdvanceCD/AdvanceMAME):

device_mouse raw
device_raw_mousetype[0] ps2
device_raw_mousedev[0] /dev/psaux (trackball)
device_raw_mousetype[1] auto
device_raw_mousetype[1] /dev/input/mouse0 (usb mouse hack xaxis is
spinner 1 and y axis is spinner2)

./advm detects the usb mouse spinners and shows positive values for
turning the dial to the right and negative values for turning the dial
to the left for both spinners and it properly identifies which axis is
turning. advm does not detect the trackball (but the trackball still
works in mame, so that's ok).

If I do this in advmame.rc:
input_map[p1_dialx] auto
input_map[p1_trackballx] auto
input_map[p1_trackbally] auto

Then "marble madness" uses the trackball as I want (and works well
except for sensitivity). And "tempest" works in both directions using
the trackball but it won't work with the spinner.

If I do this:
input_map[p1_dialx] mouse[1,0]
Then the spinner works *but only in one direction!* (to the left,
which produces "negative" values.) Turning the spinner to the right
does nothing.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
Brian
