Like I said, the TV is the only thing connected to the computer. When it
boots up, I see the Dell splash screen, then I see Linux or DOS boot up,
and I eventually end up at a Linux shell prompt or DOS C:\> prompt. From
there I can run advcfg and select different options, but when it gets to
the point where it wants to align the screen, then it aborts with the
"video mode is incompatible" error.

The reason I went with AdvanceMAME is because it supposedly  has
enhancements for dealing with TVs. :-)
