lyntin is the old old tree (pre 3.0), lyntinng is the 3.x tree (complete
re-write from pre-3.0), and lyntin40 is the 4.x tree (lots of file
structure changes to deal with distutils support and various other
things).

Make sure you're looking at what's in cvs before you start patching.
There have been a bunch of changes since 4.0 mostly in the area of
optimization and code-cleanup but also some new features.
