I've been working on a functional replacement for telnetlib.py that doesn't suck. I'll have it checked in the sandbox sometime today. It is designed to be easilly subclassed and loaded up with handlers for telnet options. Google shows almost no one using the standard telnetlib.py so if we use it and other people pick it up it could be included in a future version of python proper. A short net.py replacement that just does little customization should be easy (less than 50 lines).
