I think I might do both. The /sh command would allow one to run shell
commands as part of a macro or trigger (User beware!), err, I suppose
it's alias or action in lyntin/tintin speak. That's probably the most
straight forward, so I'll do that first, but the mode would fit well
with the VI keybindings.

in ex mode:
