Hi gang!

I said I was interested in doing a Lyntin 4.2 a while back. I figured
I'd put out a call for requests for Lyntin 4.2.

The grounds rules for requests are these:

1. I don't have a lot of time to put into Lyntin and I don't really
use it anymore. I'm mostly doing this for the purposes of keeping the
project going until either Eugene gets a lot of free time or someone
comes along that he wants to hand it off to.

2. Given that, I'm happy to do quick fixes, minor updates, and things
like that. I'm definitely not going to do any refactoring, rewriting,
or redesigning. If you're interested in stuff like that, I'd be happy
to review patches and check them in, but I won't be doing the initial
work.

I think that's about it. My plans for the 4.2 release is to update
the setup stuff to use the setuptools package, upgrade the license to
GPL 3, fix any bugs that we know about that aren't going to take weeks
to fix, and possibly skim through the code and adjust anything that
looks like it could benefit from new features in Python 2.5. It sort
of depends on how aggressive I get.

I'll be targeting a September release so that gives us all some time
to let this sink in and figure out what we want to accomplish and then
time to accomplish it.

I'm also tossing around moving everything over to SVN. If I get
really excited, I'll migrate the history over. Otherwise I'll just
leave the CVS stuff as is and do any new development in SVN. I'm
happy to hear any thoughts on that as well.

So let this email flesh out what should go in 4.2. I'll records
anything on the wiki and build a rough design document sketch for the
release and then start working on things.

Hope this finds you all in happy places. :)

Rock on!
/will
