Probably a Silly Question

I just started really getting into this game and find it the most 
addictive of everything that I have on my Palm.  

In any event, there's one thing I can't figure out.  When I am 
looking at a list of ships that I have in orbit, what do the numbers 
in the parenthesis mean?  Say I have "10 Blaster (6/3) Fighters"--
what does the "6/3" mean?  I've tried looking all over for the 
answer, but to no avail.
