I'd say a new checking like that added in r16-9427 doesn't belong to release
branches, or at least only after a long testing period on the trunk.
I think the important question is whether the problematic sharing existed on
the branch already before the other changes from the same PR and it is just the
new extra checking flagging something that has been done before, or if it shows
a problem introduced by the new changes.
