Note aarch64 darwin support is not upstream yet so this should be filed at
https://github.com/iains/gcc-darwin-arm64 .

Second does this also happen for x86_64-darwin with GCC 16?
Your code example has .s file which is aarch64-darwin specific and shows where
the problem is with the .s file but GCC does not include an assembler.
