This PR has been fixed for 15- to 17-branches, I am not sure by which patch.

I thought at first that it might have been the fix for pr121628 that cured this
one. However, 121628 is still broken on 15-branch. Besides, applying the patch
in comment #7 breaks the testcases for 121628!

@dml2011 Please submit a separate PR for your problem, if it is still there.
