I had a simular problem, and was able to compile the apps by putting STDNS in front of any conflicting symbols. So if you replace "map <type, type> name" with "STDNS map <type, type> name" in your source code, it should work. Works for me on SlackWare 7, 8.1, and 9.0-beta systems.
