Thanks for the suggestion.

I have not done a bootstrap build yet , my local machine is currently
limited on storage for a full 3-stage build. I would appreciate access to
the machine farm you mentioned, that would be very helpful for testing
patches properly.

I have also sent a follow-up patch adding a test_passthrough case for
*getenv* as you suggested.
I am also still working on the GSoC proposal and will share it once ready.
