That worked, bu what's unclear to me is whether it is a git server
issue or an issue of the cfarm client.

Your proposed solution is on the client, so does that mean it is
a client issue?

I have used http:// before, on many cfarm machines and also on
non-cfarm, with Binutils and GCC git repos.
