In case it wasn't obvious, entering the "sharedlibrary" command loads the
symbols, but the new gdb never attempts to do so automatically, despite
automatic symbol loading being enabled. It's a big issue since most of our
developers are using GUIs to debug and aren't familiar with gdb's command line
interface or how to access it via their IDE.
