problem running gdbserver

Hi,
I am running GDB version 5.2.1 and am having problems
when running gdbsever. Both my target and host are x86
running a 2.4.7-10 kernel (from Red Hat)

I can set breakppints and list code but whenever I try
to run the program (c) I get the following message on
the host :
Program received signal SIGILL, illegal instruction
the target dies with :
Child terminated with signal 4

Any help would be appreciated.
