problem with gdb 5.2

I'm Teresa Fazio
and I have some problems while running gdb as shown in figure.
I have followed instructions in "Getting Started with eCos" to install, but I don't setup 
target because I haven't the HW, so I would use simulator.
Where I wrong?
It connects to simulator, but doesn't work fine. Why?
If you help me, I  would be very obliged.
