how to update GDB?

hello i'm on ubuntu 10.04 using and inspiron 1520 and  running GDB 7.1.  how
do i update/upgrade gdb?  i checked the site for how to install gdb but do i
really need to go through all those steps if i only just want to upgrade to
a newer version?  isn't there an easier way to do it?
