Yes. When a place is added to the Enclosed By tab creating a hierarchy, a
span of time can be added for when that was true. Other places can be added
with their own time spans. Each place record within the hierarchy can have
their own Enclosed By options. Then based upon the date of the event,
Gramps can follow the date path through the hierarchy.

Additionally, if the name of the location changed, alternative place names
can be added with their own time spans. Just remember to set the main Name
field's time span using the edit icon to the right of the main Name field.

An event with no date will follow the path for the earliest time line.
Think, which path will Gramps follow if the date was 1 January 0001.
