Do I understand right, that Gramps can automatically create .gramps or
.gpkg files by itself, unprompted?

That would be very useful, and I think an earlier version may have done
this, as I have some of those files in my working directory. But none
have been produced for a couple of years.

I looked, but I couldn't find anywhere to turn this feature back on.
