And the answer is yes, provided that you have a lot of time. And that is, because Gramps has no automated merge for people who have the same vitals, and relatives. You'd have to use the built-in tool to find duplicate people and then merge these one by one. RootsMagic has a smart merge that can do that for you, but that'll cost you $ 39.95. It may be worth it, though, if you have a few thousands of people that might need to be merged. To be honest, I think that if you like to maintain a tree in two places, like on Ancestry and your PC, using Gramps is not a good idea, because there is no easy way to synchronize your tree with that.
