Cemeteries may be the single most important Genealogist exception to the inclination for fewer & broader Place types.

The likelihood that a Genealogist will want to spontaneously visit local cemeteries for research purposes in an unfamiliar place is higher than virtually any Place type.

There will always be visits to local libraries, courthouse & churches. Those research visits will tend to be planned & scheduled in most cases. The records require cooperation with a gatekeeper before you can begin excavating. The same with an old family homestead & its current occupant.

But a Cemetery? You could just be driving by at midnight, see a couple headstones & decide to stop to take a couple snapshots.

So a quick way to extract a list of interments from your ever-present laptop... without writing a custom filter... is a convenience feature that should not be underestimated.

Likewise, the ability to find & plot a map of known cemeteries is useful. It lets you decide if a cemetery crawl might be illuminating.

I'm getting more and more convinced that this is the best approach.

I'd like to see a top level place type containing only about a dozen
broad categories.  Our existing type would provide the sub-type detail.

Perhaps terms like "Place of Worship" instead of "Church", and other
categories such as "Military base", "Retail outlet", "Medical facility",
"Educational establishment"?  Higher levels would be something like
"Country", "Region" and "Populated place" only.
